Major Hertz
One Man, One Mission, One Survivor...
Major Hertz is an 80's bad-ass simulator built in Unity3d where the player shoots, boosts, and ignores gravity to proclaim their manly dominance against the evil Onyx Cross in the center of a raging space battle. At its core, the game is a third person shooter that is both a love letter and a parody of 80's games and movies.
I was responsible for character design and animation, as well as all cinematic sequences in this 3rd-Person arcade shooter. As it was a small development team of only five students, I also had my hand in many other areas of the development process. The entire project was completed over a twelve week development cycle.
Major Hertz received the VFS award for "Best Final Project".

Chose a visual target and attempted to repeat the lighting style using Unreal 3 Editor.
Major Hertz has over 50 animations. A central feature of the game allows him to boost along the ground at high speeds and even get air-born off of ramps.
Major Hertz utilizes animation blending to allow him to aim dynamically wherever the reticle moves on the screen.
While boosting, Major Hertz can turn side-to-side and slalom through obstacles like a downhill skier.

Clothes Lines are another type of obstacle.

Level Design
These are images of various level designs and lighting assignments throughout my year at Vancouver Film School. All levels and scenes were constructed using the Unreal 3 editor, most of which are fully playable levels, scripted using Unreal's Kismet visual scripting.
Freeo
Freeo is a two-player co-op, side scrolling arcade shooter made in flash where two tropical birds fly for their freedom from their captor, an angry pet store owner. The birds spit seeds to clear their escape path that is impeded by other birds, power lines, and the pet store owner, himself.
Level two sees the birds escape to the jungle, but they are still in danger from dangerous hidden creatures.
I was responsible for all character art and animation, audio, as well as some environmental art. I actually modelled, rigged, and animated the two playable birds in 3D Studio Max, and rendered out the animations to 2D images for use in Flash. The entire project took about three weeks to develop with a team of five students.
